INAUGURATION OF PSYCHOLOGY ASSOCIATION 2025-26

                    

The Association Day of the Department of Psychology for the academic year 2025–26 was successfully conducted on 11 February 2026 (Wednesday) at Saint Chavara Hall at 10:00 am. The programme was organized with the objective of fostering academic enthusiasm, encouraging student participation, and celebrating the achievements of the department.

The event commenced with a prayer, setting a solemn and positive tone for the programme. The welcome address was delivered by Mrs. Tittymol Thomas, Head of the Department of Psychology, who warmly welcomed the dignitaries, faculty members, and students. She briefly outlined the department’s activities and highlighted the significance of the Association Day in promoting academic and co-curricular engagement.

The presidential address was delivered by Dr. P. T. Jose, Administrator of the college, who emphasized the importance of holistic education and encouraged students to actively participate in academic and professional development opportunities.

The inaugural speech was delivered by Jayan Namboodiri, CEO-Director and Consultant Behavior Therapist at Mindcraft. In his address, he shared valuable insights on the practical relevance of psychology and motivated students to explore emerging career opportunities in the field.

During his session, he spoke on the theme “Mental Health Awareness through Behaviour Techniques”. He emphasized that maintaining good mental health begins with simple lifestyle practices such as adequate sleep, proper hydration, and nutritious food. He explained that stress often arises from the gap between expectations and reality and highlighted the importance of developing positive personal qualities such as mindfulness, empathy, adaptability, and harmony in daily life. The session also covered practical behavioural techniques, including thought diversion strategies used in cognitive-behavioural approaches, mindfulness practices to stay present, and simple activities like social walking to improve well-being. He briefly discussed causes of mental health problems such as stressful life events, biological factors, low self-esteem, and experiences of abuse or neglect, and introduced the paradoxical intention method as a way of managing phobias. The talk provided students with practical insights into maintaining balance, improving concentration, and adopting a holistic approach to mental health.

Felicitations were offered by Mr. Ranji Joseph C., Principal of the college, who appreciated the efforts of the department in organizing the programme and acknowledged the active involvement of students.

The vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. G. S. Rugmini, Student of S6 Psychology, who expressed sincere gratitude to the chief guest, dignitaries, faculty members, and students for contributing to the success of the event.

The formal session was followed by a vibrant cultural programme that showcased the talents and creativity of the students. The programme concluded with the National Anthem, marking the successful completion of the Association Day celebrations.

Overall, the event was conducted smoothly and achieved its objective of promoting academic interaction, motivation, and a sense of unity among students and faculty members.
