HISTORY
The Department of English established in 2015 started with the UG programme for BA English in Language and Literature. Six years down the lane the Department has made great strides in academics. The year 2022 is a milestone for the Department as it has now evolved into a full-fledged Postgraduate Department. The Department now offers both Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes in English Language and Literature.
2017 made an innovative and experimental theoretical venture, the students of BA English (2017 batch) initiated an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth and Girish Karnad’s Nagamandala, merging both the plays to create a new one that threw light on the Endosulfan issue that shook Kerala in the recent years. Such literary initiatives programmed by the Department contributed significantly to re-imagine and remould the course curriculum, incorporating intense student participation and freeing them from the drudgery of conventional classroom oriented teaching methods.
The Department has also conducted various seminars and a three-day webinar with eminent academicians as the resource persons. Educational tours like Tea plantation visits, Interviews with authors like VK Sreeraman (Maatu, prescribed by Calicut University), Poet and lyricist Rafeeq Ahmed, Author and academician Mrs. Deepti Menon (Shadow in the Mirror, Arms and the Woman) Journalist turned writer Sabin Iqbal (Cliff hangers and Shamaal Days) , Journalist turned actor cum director Joy Mathew, Educationalist Mrs. Nalini Chandran, have given the students a wide view of Language and Literature.
